I set this page up to give you an idea of how cork decoys are made. It is a slow process beginning with a block of cork that is 24"x36"x4" and a piece of basswood. Time and tools and patience make it a decoy.
Start with a block of cork and a block of wood, add a pattern, use a bandsaw then rasps and power carving tools and you finally end up with a decoy ready for paint. If you have never worked with wood you do not know the live feeling you get in your hands. Ask any carpenter.
These pictures were taken when I was using dark cork. I no longer do that for several reasons. True it is cheaper, but like granddad always said, "you get what you pay for" and I learned my lesson on that. Plus the fact that it is soooo! dirty to carve, I felt like a coal miner.

Here is a table full of a couple of days work painting.

My beautiful wife CC made me put this pic of the old jac painting away in the shop. Actually the 2nd coat of primer is going on a Ringneck that migrated to Florida.
Did you ever want to build a duck boat? I have built two.
One is a Sneak Box after the Barnegat Bay type sneaker.
The other is a scull boat and it works wonders.

This scull works wonders on puddlers except on blacks. Geese are easy prey. Sculling makes the time slow down and instead of their wings being set you look for them to have their heads resting or feeding. What fun this is.

Another of my additions to the heritage of decoy carving and duck hunting.
These kids are my grandkids. Aleisha is the girl driving the boat in the top left corner. Her sisters are Tory and Sapphire. They are the daughters of my goose shooting daughter Kris. My duck hunting partner son John has two, Shelby and Coleman. All were thrilled to be able to participate in this project.

I believe our Hunting HERITAGE needs TLC. The more people that are exposed properly to the traditions and excitement of hunting mean more defenders of the 2nd ammendment rights I hold dear.
I tell people it is not the killing, but the traditions and the great meat that is without additives. I guess I am one of the PETA (people eating tasty animals) just as my GOD intended.
I recently came into possession of a T-Shirt with the People Eating Tasty Animals logo on it. I was produced by the MO Magnums, a NRA youth competition team. They sold the shirts to raise the money to travel to PA and compete. I give thanks to them and my internet duck hunting buddy Sheriff John of Missouri. Thanks Will.
This page is one of my contributions to our heritage.
